Program Introduction

The KGL CONTEST English Olympiad is organized by the International Testing Authority in 2016, which is a fun English challenge with fast-growing global influence in recent years. In 2024, over 80,000 English learners from more than 40 countries participated in the KGL CONTEST English Olympiad.

KGL CONTEST English Olympiad aims to improve students' English skills in a relaxed environment through high-quality, standard-based challenges designed by ITA. It is fully aligned with the CEFR standards with internationally recognized results and awards and is scaled into three stages: Stage 1- Stage 2- World Finals. The World Finals is held in a different European country each year, inviting top students worldwide to participate in the finals. The 2024 World Finals is held in Greece.

1. Candidates should select the level that aligns with their current proficiency, or a higher level based on their age requirement. E.g., A 14-year-old candidate can register for KGL Contest A2, even for a more challenging level such as KGL Contest B1 or B2, but not KGL Contest A1 for whose maximum age is 12.

2. No Duplicate Entries: Native speakers and participants already certified at their intended level are not eligible to take part.

* What is CEFR?

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is an internationally recognized standard for describing language proficiency and levels. It is the most widely accepted language assessment reference framework globally. In many countries, the CEFR has replaced the original evaluation systems used for foreign language education. For instance, many educational authorities in Europe have explicitly stated the CEFR levels that secondary school students should achieve, such as B2 being the level for the first foreign language and B1 for the second foreign language.
