— HKUST SKL Summer STEM Programme —
Introduction
The HKUST SKL Summer STEM Programme is hosted by the State Key Laboratory of Displays and Optoelectronics at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. As one of HKUST’s three nationally accredited state key laboratories, the SKL focuses on cutting-edge research in displays and optoelectronics, equipped with advanced research platforms and experimental facilities, and ranks among the top in academic research and technological innovation. All instructors are appointed in-house supervisors or researchers from the laboratory, delivering face-to-face instruction on the Clear Water Bay campus to ensure teaching quality and academic excellence.
The programme integrates cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, sustainable development, and optoelectronics, covering three major flagship programmes at HKUST: EEE (QS #29), Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence in Science (QS #17), and Computer Science (QS #24), all ranked No.1 in Hong Kong. It aims to help participants fully grasp the latest developments in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Through academic lectures, laboratory visits, hands-on experiences, seminars, and face-to-face exchanges with researchers, participants will gain an in-depth understanding of frontier research areas and the interdisciplinary nature of modern scientific discoveries.
The programme arranges an on-site visit to SenseTime, a leading Hong Kong technology company, allowing students to closely observe the industrial application of cutting-edge technologies and bridge academic theory with industrial practice. Meanwhile, students will take in-depth campus tours of HKUST and CUHK to experience the academic atmosphere of top universities, and visit classic Hong Kong landmarks to immerse themselves in the city’s culture and unique charm.
Outcomes
Upon completion, participants receive an official programme completion certificate issued by the State Key Laboratory of Displays and Optoelectronics, HKUST; ASDAN Research Certificate, and the recommendation letter from the course instructor, with project outcomes serving as a strong foundation for future university applications and research development.
