Summer School at Columbia University combines academic courses and industry visits, offering high school students a unique opportunity to explore academic and professional pathways. Guided by experienced experts, students engage in coursework, hands-on activities, and New York company tours. During the program, students will reside in Columbia's dormitories and dine at campus dinning halls, fully immersing themselves in the Ivy League environment.

Important Note:The summer school is an academic program for international students held at Columbia University, officially recognized, but not directly affiliated with Columbia University or its constituent departments. Grades from the course cannot be converted into Columbia University credits.

Prof. Guido ZulianiArchitecture

● Distinguished Prof. in Architecture at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art; Registered Architect

Guido Zuliani graduated from Universita IUAV di Venezia and joined Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture in 1985. He teaches courses in architectural design and architectural history and is well recognized by the academic community. As founder of AZstudio, he has led several internationally important architectural projects, including the design of the Afragola high-speed railway station in Naples and Pompei-Santuario railway station in Pompeii. His work has been published in Milan Architecture 1945-2015.

* The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art is a world-renowned architecture institution known for training outstanding architects. Its alumni include Daniel Libeskind, the designer of the Jewish Museum in Berlin, and David Childs, who presided over the masterplan for the World Trade Center.

Michael GilvarBusiness & Entrepreneurship

● Entrepreneurship Instructor at Bernard M.Baruch College, CUNY; Co-founder of AION Health Technologies

Michael, with 20+ years' cross-industry experience in consumer products, healthcare, and product operations, co-founded AION, a patient care wearable tech company. As an entrepreneurship instructor at Baruch College of the City University of New York, he integrates real industry experience and cases into his teaching, aiding students in grasping business operations and cultivating practical skills for future enterprise growth.

Prof. Arrem Joukov Finance & Investing

● Finance Professor; Juris Doctor; Legal officer in the United States Army Reserve

Prof. Artem Joukov pursued a legal career in the United States and is currently a Finance professor at Wenzhou-Kean University. His research interests include law, economics and finance, with a focus on the key role of property rights in economic development, such as shareholder equity and trade rights. As a Legal officer in the United States Army Reserve, he has also presented financial research at international conferences, and his legal articles have been recognized by the United States Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of Georgia, and the Connecticut Court of Appeals. He is adept at combining practical experience with academic knowledge to provide students with a wide range of industry perspectives and insights.

Max KalnitzJournalism

● Master, School of Journalism and Communication From Syracuse University; Well-known Media Journalist

Max Kalnitz is an award-winning media journalist and social media strategist. He is adept at combining traditional journalism skills with new media platforms. He has not only published numerous stories on Billboard, The Nation and Insider, but also successfully created and managed multiple accounts on TikTok, where he has posted individual pieces of content that have been viewed 19 million times. His extensive practical experience will also provide students with forward-looking industry insights.

Kyle LorenzoPsychology & Neuroscience

● Instructor of Psychology at Fordham University; Master in Applied Developmental Psychology

Kyle Lorenzo is an instructor in psychology at Fordham University with many years of teaching experience. His main courses include foundational psychology, biopsychology, multicultural psychology, and cross-cultural psychology. With a belief that students should learn not just what to think, but how to think, his courses pay more attention on students' independent learning and critical thinking ability.

Architecture

Are you considering a career in architecture or design? This course introduces architectural ideas, design principles, and methods of exploring problems of the built environment in a collaborative studio setting. While working on a design project, you will learn about the academic path to an architectural degree, the day-to-day work of an architect, and the career opportunities.


Practical Activitie:

  • Architectural Practice: Gain insight into the globally renowned firm known for projects such as One Vanderbilt in New York, Canary Wharf in London and the World Bank headquarters in design workshops at KPF Architects; learn the design process from concept to completion, explore innovative architectural ideas and apply sustainable design principles.
  • Architecture and Environment: Visit Obra Architects, a firm known for socially sustainable design and a recipient of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Award); learn about Obra's leading practice in socially and environmentally integrated design, and explore how architecture meets social needs and creates livable Spaces.
* Students will visit the renowned engineering company such as Transsolar, the architecture firm Bone/Levine Architects.

Emergency Medicine

Our summer medical program for high school students gives you a full view of the medical and healthcare field, as well as immersive learning through hands-on projects and simulations. Students will get the unique opportunity to hop on board and learn how things really operate in the back of an ambulance. In addition, they will get behind-the-scenes access to a hospital ward room, emergency or intensive care unit room, operating room or procedural training room.


Practical Activities:

  • First Aid Skills Training: Practice first aid skills such as suturing, intubation, and BLS in a simulated laborator
  • Realistic Simulation: Experience the ED's high-pressure environment and engage in interactive medical simulation at Mount Sinai's STAR Center, a leading US teaching hospital; learn about emergency medicine's practical operations through simulated diagnostics and treatment
  • CPR and First Aid Certification: Participate in adult CPR and AED first aid training, earn a cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification, and learn how to effectively provide CPR and AED rescue in emergency situations.

Business & Entrepreneurship

Business and Entrepreneurship courses cover the core knowledge of how business operations, marketing, sales and finance work together to promote the development of enterprises, and aim to help students master the core concepts and practical tools of entrepreneurship (such as Business Model Canvas), and have a comprehensive understanding of business operation models. During the program, students will work as a team to create a new business project, use their knowledge to develop a sales and marketing plan for it, present and recommend their business ideas to investors and mentors.


Practical Activities:

  • Corporate Operations and Marketing Strategy: Explore Fabrik, an innovative company transforming idle spaces into thriving community centers, and fostering local business growth and urban renewal.
  • Sustainable Business Practices: Visit Any Bag, renowned for its eco-friendly innovations and circular economy success in reusing single-use plastic bags, with products featured in mainstream media.

Finance & Investing

In this course, students will gain invaluable insights, build a diverse portfolio of stocks, bonds, and options, and experience the thrill of a dynamic, team-based trading competition with your classmates, where collaboration and real-time decision-making are key to success. As they compete, students will explore essential investment concepts, including the characteristics of different asset classes, the distinctions between public and private equity, the inner workings of the stock market, company financial analysis, valuation techniques, and effective portfolio design.


Practical Activities:

  • Portfolio Team Competition: Participate in simulated investing as a team, learn how to manage, and optimize a portfolio in a changing market environment through real-time decision making and market analysis.
  • Wall Street In depth Visit: Visit Wall Street, experience the operation of the global financial center, and understand the actual working environment of investment banks, asset management companies and financial advisory industries.

Psychology & Neuroscience

Through psychology simulations and hands-on neurology workshops, you will explore the relationships between the brain and human behavior. If you are interested in the physical aspect of the brain and central nervous system or more intrigued by human behavior and thought processes, come here to communicate with professionals that have a background in both psychology and neuroscience.


Practical Activities:

  • Explore Brain Activity Imaging: Visit the NYU Psychology lab, witness the operation of an fMRI machine, and participate in practical research to learn how brain activity can be studied through neuroimaging.
  • Neuroscience and Animal Behavior Exploration: Visit the Alvarado Lab, part of the Stowers Institute for Medical Research, which focuses on cutting-edge research in the field of regenerative biology, explore core areas of biology, observe a variety of animals up close, and learn research methods at the intersection of neuroscience and animal behavior.

Game Development

If you are passionate about games and want to know how games are built from scratch, this course will take you deep into the wonderful world of game development. Using the Unity engine, students will learn how to design and write their own 3D games, including creating virtual worlds, dealing with physical collisions, designing game interfaces and applying lighting effects. Through C# programming, they will master the core skills of game scripting, explore the various aspects of game development through sharing with industry experts, and use their knowledge to create personal games.


Practical Activities:

  • Microsoft New York Office Visit: Visit Microsoft's New York City offices to learn about the latest technologies and tools the company uses in game development, especially in the game engine, programming, and cross-platform game development innovations.
  • Spyscape Visit: Explore Spyscape, a 5,000 sqm interactive museum in New York, featuring special exhibits like 007 x SPYSCAPE, engage in immersive spy-themed game design experiences, and delve into plot setting, decision-making, and virtual interactions.

Journalism

This course will take students through the heart of journalism, from the idea to the story publishing process. They will learn how to report in real time via smartphones, shoot and edit news videos and pictures, and master the basic skills of news writing. TikTok Day will help students explore how to use social media platforms for news reporting and learn about journalism in the digital age. Through practical interviewing and writing exercises, they will develop interviewing skills and gain insight into the ethics and challenges of the journalism industry, laying the foundation for future success in a rapidly changing media environment.


Practical Activities:

  • A Peek into Global News Production: Visit Bloomberg, the world's leading news organization, to learn about its complex workflow of generating news content in more than 100 countries around the world, gain a comprehensive understanding of the operation of major news organizations and the production and distribution of global news.
  • ABC7 News Production Tour: Visit the newsroom of ABC7, one of the most popular television news channels in New York City, known for fast, accurate news reporting and live broadcasting, observe the production process of live news reports, and experience the rapid decision-making and execution of news scenes.

  Boarding and Lodging 

Accommodation at Barnard College Dormitor

During the program, students will reside suite-style rooms at the Barnard College dormitory, with either single or twin rooms equipped with beds, desks, wardrobes, and shared bathrooms, as well as free laundry facilities and Wi-Fi.

  • The dormitories are equipped with 24-hour security services, and the campus security team patrols around the clock to ensure student safety.
  • Except for outings, students will have their meals at campus finning halls.

* Students will live in the dormitories uniformly. Generally speaking, they cannot choose or change rooms. The campus canteen serves traditional American food. Please live and study at Columbia University with an open mind.

Requirements

  • English language level equivalent to IELTS level 6.0 or TOEFL 80
  • Recommendation letter from your teacher as proof of English proficiency, or a phone or online interview with an ASEEDER teacher (since the programme is conducted entirely in English).
  • * Students who have received global or national awards in international mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, business, and English assessments organized by ASEEDER are given priority for admission.

Includes:

  • uition, accommodation, meals,

Excludes:

  • International transportation costs to and from the Airport (departure and arrival from any of Beijing/Shanghai/Shenzhen/ Hong Kong, you can use a third-party service or ASEEDER's unified service; please confirm with the responsible teacher at ASEEDER before purchasing tickets);
